Zoltán Mácsai



Zoltan Macsai was born in 1985 in Berettyoujfalu / Hungary. He studied in Budapest with Palma Szilagyi and later in Berlin with Marie-Luise Neunecker.


He is a prizewinner of several international competitions (Prague Spring, Aeulos Competition in Dusseldorf, instrumental competition Markneukirchen) and a regular guest as a soloist at major international festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival, the Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Salzburger Mozartwoche. As a soloist he has already performed with the Staatskapelle Dresden, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and Mozarteumorchester Salzburg under the baton of Christian Thielemann, Ivor Bolton, and Michael Gielen.


He has performed as a principal horn with numerous orchestras, such as the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, Munich Philharmonic and Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin. From 2008 to 2016 he has been the principal horn of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, since 2016 he holds the same position with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
