Róbert Szakcsi Lakatos was born in 1975, his father is the renowned jazz pianist, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos. He started his classical studies in the Béla Bartók Conservatory, then he became the student of the Basel Music Academy where he continued his classical studies then changed his main studies to jazz piano.


In 1995 at the International Summer Jazz Festival Kraków he received the titles of Best pianist and Best soloist. In 1996 he won First Prize at the Bach Piano Competition organized by the Basel Radio. In 2001 he won First Prize ont he solo piano competition of the Montreux Jazz Festival. In 2005 he received the title of the best soloist at the competition of the Avignon Jazz Festival where young European ensembles compete.

He regularly performs on stage with such renowned jazz musicians such as Reggie Johnson, Tony Lakatos, Keith Copland, Alvin Queen, Erik Truffaz, Jack DeJohnette, Peter Bernstein, John Patitucci, Bill Evans, Randy Brecker, Chris MihnDoki, Rodney Holmes, Klaus Weiss, Melissa Walker, Ravi Coltrane, Thomas Stabenow, Hiram Bullock, Jojo Mayer and cooperated with famous orchestras such as the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra and the MR Symphonic Orchestra.


In 2002 one of his most important ensembles named Off Course published a CD in collaboration with Erik Truffaz french trumpetist. His recently published CD bears the title Szakcsi Generation with Jack DeJohnette and John Patitucci that four prominent pianist, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, his two sons (his brother and himself) and Kálmán Oláh recorded together with the world famous percussion and double bass players.
